As I write this, the viral hype surrounding Canadian band Angine de Poitrine is probably winding down, at least until a future third album is released. But after repeatedly listening to Vol. I and II and seeing them live a few weeks ago, I started looking for other bands with a similar sound. While nothing else I've found quite scratches that same itch, I've been delving into math rock, a genre which Angine de Poitrine has been described as either being part of or at least adjacent to.
I'll spare the history lesson, as it is easy to Google and those who already know the genre don't need a recap.
This is all to say that I'm really enjoying this slightly odd, experimental rock genre. There is a lot out there. It seems like there was a peak in new math rock 5–10 years ago, which means there is a lot of newish music out there for me to track down. And lots of old posts online recommending these bands. I may be late to the party, but it's easy to get into when there is already a lot of info out there.
